  3. Cheers to your return! I'll go straight to the point and say that I'm a bit disappointed (but I understand) that you found X-23 #3 confusing. By the way, I don't believe Hellion placed any thoughts in Laura's mind. In fact, the only 2 entities that played a role in Laura's personal hellverse were Hellverine and Laura's conscience. I tried to think of a reason but I'm ultimately not sure why you thought Julian put any thoughts in Laura's mind.

Personally, I hold this issue as the very best one on my entire pull list for 2010. For the first time, fans are given an in-depth look at the deep recesses of Laura's mind. Moreover, her flashbacks were some of the most powerful moments in Laura's history (I got chills during her flashbacks when she was still a young child at the Facility).

Also, Gambit was absolutely right when he said that Laura needed to leave the X-Men. Scott never gave Laura a chance at having a normal life. Laura was born to be a weapon and instead of helping her, treating her like a person, and giving her another chance at life, Scott instead continued using her as his weapon (she started forming a "normal" daily life with the New X-Men, but it was instantly stripped away when Scott reassigned her to X-Force). So yes, Laura was trapped like a rabid dog (pun) AND she was being looked at badly by several of the other mutants on the island.

I will say that the way Laura broke out of Hellverine's illusion was quite rushed. For instance, did she know that she could escape her mental Hellverse by confronting and injecting Hellverine with that weird bright light? Plus I'm not too satisfied with the way Julian let Laura go without saying goodbye.

I agree that Liu is doing a great job with Laura (I too felt COMPLETELY CHEATED with her horrible X-23 One-Shot). Craig Kyle and Chris Yost created and molded her X-Men character, but it was only when Marjorie Liu picked up X-23 that readers are given a look at what makes Laura Kinney tick. Without a doubt, Liu really does get her character. Laura's not just a soldier, she's also still a teenager with a tormented past and a potentially hard future.

I also agree that the art was amazing, especially the panels with her childhood flashbacks which were done by the guest artist.

    Grade: A

  4. Well I probably found it confusing because I started this series at #3, then went on a wild goose chase looking for the first 2.

This is going to be one of the top books in my pull list for 2011, and I especially can't wait for Laura to kick Daken's ass in Collison.

I know you're a big X-23 fan (mostly since you made a thread about it on the BtO board and said you were haha), and I'll admit I've never been more than a casual fan so thank you for the insight. I've actually put a few X-23 tpb's on my wish list for the holidays.

  5. Oooooooh. Well that certainly explains your most understandable confusion then. No worries. X-23 #1 has a Character History Backstory (voiced by Daddy Wolvy himself!) that is quite accurate and complete. That should sufficiently serve address some of your initial confusion.

Yes, Daken's ass-kicking by Laura is definitely overdue. Her "younger brother" needs to know his place in life.

Let me know whenever you need help re:Laura. I'm fairly positive I own every single one of her in-canon issues from NYX to all of Kyle & Yost's issues plus the New X-Men and X-Force issues done by guest writers.

    As for essential X-23 trades,
    X-23: Innocence Lost
    X-23: Target X
NYX: Wannabe (By J. Quesada but IT'S GREAT!)
    X-Force: Not Forgotten

I'm saving several podcast for the holiday weekend and yours is 2nd next to the BtO Anniversary ep.

Again, welcome back to podcasting, good sir!

    Cheers and Happy Holidays!
